Toy Fox Terrier History and Temperament
Also known as the American Toy Terrier or Amertoy.The tail is docked short. They have a small narrow muzzle. The hair is short, thick and is usually white with black and tan or just tan markings.
This breed was developed in the USA in the 1930's. It is directly descended from the Smooth Fox Terrier, whose standard dates back to 1876. It was miniaturized in the US through careful breeding. Crossed with English Toy Terriers, Chihuahuas, and Italian Greyhounds to refine its features and calm its disposition.
TFT's are very intelligent dogs and extremely easy to train. They are loving creatures and make excellent companions. If you like lap dogs, then this is the breed for you. TFT's are not yappers and only bark when necessary. Self exercised, this dog will do well in any environment. They do very well around small children, but have to be watched carefully as broken legs can happen easily. Their life expectancy is about 13-14 years.
